Introducing the next objects of your affection - these are the limited edition Nike Mercurial 'Golden Touch' football boots pack created to honour the winner of the 2018 Ballon d'Or Award Luka Modric. The Ballon d'Or Award caps an extraordinary calendar year for the Croatian maestro with club, country and individual honours rightfully being recognised and chief sponsor Nike have continued their now annual tradition of honouring the Ballon d'Or winner with a very special release.

However, you'll notice just then we used the word 'pack'. In a twist that brings our boot-loving hearts immense joy, not only are we going to be able to get our mortal hands on a pair of Modric-inspired Vapor XII Elite boots, but Nike are spoiling us with the simultaneous release of a Golden Touch Superfly VI Elite. Yes, you read right - two Mercurials.

With a Champions League victory and World Cup runners up medal, UEFA Champions League Midfielder of the Season, UEFA Mens Player of the Year and a couple of Golden Ball awards that bookended the calendar year, it's been quite the 2018 for Luka Modric. We’re delighted to see the midfield maestro win the Ballon d’Or. We’re even more pleased, though, that Luka’s finally being rewarded with some special edition boots! It's hard to believe that before he was given those iridescent chrome Vapors for winning the FIFA The Best (that he was too modest to wear on-pitch), Modric had never had so much as a signature on his footwear.

Let's take a moment though to appreciate the sheer beauty of these boots. Drenched in an all-over 'Pure Platinum' colourway they can already be considered as one of, if not THE stand out colourway for this current generation of Mercurial. We're sure you'll agree both models are a sophisticated upgrade to 2016's Superfly 'Vitorias' and 2017's Superfly 'Quinto Triunfo', finding an almost perfect mix of light with premium coloured accents. But no matter the Superfly or Vapor, the shimmering upper and chrome sole plate are a fitting compliment to the 2018 award.

Throughout his professional career, Modric has been an ever-present in Mercurial which is referenced in the design of these boots. That born-Mercurial DNA features as a fingerprint pattern stylishly laid over the Flyknit upper, intended to represent the individual and the talent that has risen to the top. For us, it is another great example of the flexibility in design options the Flyknit material provides and the creative interpretation from the product team.

The whole package incorporates this pattern to finish off the look, from box and lining to boot bag displaying the unique design. Nike continue their tweaking of the Swoosh placement and you'll notice the Vapor adopts the classic side profile location whilst the Superfly borrows from the last generation and incorporates a larger off centred top down design. Unquestionably however, the neatest touch is the fingerprint 'stamp' on the heel of the boots, embossed with the iconic Mercurial M in gold and black.

With only 1,500 pairs of each available to buy worldwide, you're left with the rather tricky dilemma of either choosing between the two models or going for broke to bag both Superfly and Vapor. As always, fastest finger first begins when both the Mercurial Superfly 360 Elite and Mercurial Vapor XII Elite drop in extremely limited numbers at
