As the build-up to the Women’s World Cup continues, Nike today reveal a range of kits for some of the top sides in the competition. There are 14 in all, including newly crowned SheBelieves Cup winners England, along with hosts France, the USA, Australia, the Netherlands, Norway, Brazil, and China.

She believes, we all believe – the Lionesses have a great shot at taking home the big trophy this summer, and they’ll certainly look the part in the stunning home and away shirts Nike have created especially for the tournament. Inspired by modern fashion, the home shirt merges minimalist style with refined details – “THE LIONESSES” is printed inside the right shoulder, for example – in a sleek design that symbolises “strength and purity” according to Nike. To translate, that means it’s all-white. The Stadium shirt is constructed with Nike Breathe fabric, while the Match jersey is fully equipped with VaporKnit for top-notch ventilation.

It’s the away kit that’s arguably more interesting here though. The bold red shirt features a hand-drawn print that brings the nation together by means of a floral design, with each county represented by its particular flower. There’s the Devon primrose, the Norfolk poppy, the Hops of Kent – it’s an excellent idea, very inclusive, and it looks cool too. Nice one Nike. Same tiers apply in terms of tech, naturally.

The other standout shirt in the collection has to be the France away. Its unique look is testament to some slightly out-there creative direction, but it’s resulted in one of the best French shirts in years. What’s the story? Here goes. It’s all about “L’Hexagone”. Viewed from space, that’s the shape France takes on, as the jagged edges smooth out to become a clean six-sided hexagon. Combine that bit of patriotic geometry with France’s longstanding history of fashion – in particular its female pioneers – and you get the hexadot, patterns of which adorn the shirt in all their mathematically satisfying glory. While the “viewed from space” angle is unusual, “L’Hexagone” is a familiar term in France, and we can see the natives lapping up both the inspiration and the artistic flair of the shirt itself.

Elsewhere, the Netherlands kit harnesses the fearless yet graceful nature of Holland’s lionesses (yes, they’re lionesses too), the Norway home shirt features a star graphic in honour of their 1995 World Cup win, the USA home harks back to their uplifting triumph in ’99. The Australia, Brazil, and China jerseys each feature their own cool little touches, while Nigeria fans will certainly recognise their iconic home shirt. All the Match shirts in the collection feature Nike’s women-specific curved hem on the side for a superior fit.

Got a favourite? Course you have. The great thing about international tournaments, though, is that you don’t have to limit yourself to one team. Anything goes, really, so head over to our Replica page ahead of the collection’s launch in May and see where your allegiance takes you.
