Adidas Archetic Pack
That didn’t take long. Just over a week into 2019 and rocking only the modern design’s second ever colourway, the Copa is back in black. The new, not-quite-blackout paintjob comes courtesy of the adidas Archetic Pack, which, as you’d expect, also features the X, Nemeziz, and Predator silos in similarly dark getups. While the first black leather COPA 19 is clearly the headline act, the other boots are definitely worth a look, so let’s break down the full collection below.
First up, the X 18, and blue is the colour here, as subtle accents on almost every part of the boot combine with a chrome soleplate and three stripes. There’s an iridescent effect too – if you regularly play under floodlights, you’re in for a treat here. Blue’s also woven into the Skeletalweave upper using the same technique as on the previous Initiator Pack colourway, which seems to be something adi’s designers are enjoying experimenting with of late. With good reason, it looks great on foot.
The Nemeziz, meanwhile, takes the colour weave technique to the next level, this time incorporating it into the collar and midfoot bootie. There’s no structural difference compared to any other colourway, but the traditional appearance does make you feel like you’re putting on a particularly comfy winter sock. Underfoot, the soleplate is the most unique of any boot in the Archetic Pack, boasting a three-tone colour scheme that transitions from red in the forefoot, to black in the midfoot, and finally blue in the rear. Nice.
Now we’re onto the futuristic stuff. Despite only minimal changes, the Predator 19 is a definite improvement over last year’s boot, and its superior cosmetics are even more apparent in the Archetic Pack colourway, with those aggressive lines on the Controlskin upper really popping out in Active Red. They work in combination with a touch of red on the soleplate, and very slight hints of colour on the three stripes. Make no mistake though, this is a predominantly black boot, and one of the best modern Predators to date.
Look at the sheen on that. Every boot in the Archetic Pack has an iridescent aspect to it, but only the Copa has the unique light-catching properties of luxury leather. Thankfully, adidas have kept things simple on the Fuse Skin upper, leaving everything black apart from the three stripes on the medial side, and even there the application of colour is very subtle. The Exoframe soleplate, however, goes all-in on the pearlescent look that sets the latest COPA 19 apart from, well, any other Copa ever made. Two colourways in and both have been absolute beauties – the Copa is settling into its new position in the adidas lineup very nicely indeed.
