New Balance Emerald Green Pack Feat. Furon 5.0
New Balance’s unrelenting quest for ultimate speed takes another supercharged step forward today with the release of the new Furon 5.0, part of the Emerald Green Pack.
The Furon’s focus has always been on enabling the kind of explosive acceleration and decisive accuracy lead athlete Sadio Mane displays on a regular basis, and the 5.0 continues that theme, adding a few new elements to what was already a very good forward’s boot.
Most obvious is a new tongue. Where the Furon 4.0’s was a little bit awkward, sticking out no matter how much you tried to tuck it away, the 5.0’s is completely streamlined with the rest of the collar. It’s barely noticeable now, which, let’s be honest, is what you want from a speed boot, and of course saves a tiny bit of weight too.
The upper has also been improved, now boasting a bonded, full-foot version of the FantomFit skeleton, the join for which you’ll notice towards the rear of the boot. In general, there’s a little bit more support around the heel for increased stability during cuts and turns. There’s also a new “infiniGRIP” insole for additional traction, which is particularly beneficial for the first few steps of a sprint – it does give your acceleration a small boost.
Finally, leather-boot fans will be pleased to know that K-leather versions of both silos are again available – though only on the FG plate. You’ll have to stick to synthetics if you want an AG or SG.
