Following on from the jaw-dropping release of the Mercurial Superfly VI Elite LVL UP, which sees the boot’s design feature past iconic Mercurial colourways to pay tribute to the king of speed himself, Cristiano Ronaldo, Nike have today launched the full LVL UP collection.

As we’ve already established, the Juve forward won’t be the only player reppin’ these on the pitch, with next-generation stars and potential future brand ambassadors Kylian Mbappe and Aussie forward Sam Kerr the other featured athletes.

The boots in total feature more than 25 past colourways, which represent 20 years of speed and lots and lots of goals! Here we’re going to highlight some of our favourite Mercurial colourways seen on these Superflys. There are quite a few to go through, so without further ado, let’s get into it.

Quite a significant Mercurial for Ronaldo, the Vapor IV was the boot that CR7 wore as he notched his first ever professional hat-trick while playing for Manchester United. The colourway seen on these perfectly matched United’s home kit at the time, while the boot’s mantra for creating a seamless aerodynamic shape was made more obvious with its streamlined lace cover.
The first ever Nike Mercurial Vapor Superfly was debuted by the Portuguese forward in Manchester United’s return leg of their round of 16 tie against Inter Milan, and boy did Ronaldo deliver. His 49th minute header past keeper Julio Cesar helped United secure a 2-0 victory over the Nerazzurri, while CR7 also claimed his third Premier League title in these.
Taking inspiration from the printed design seen on the Air Safari running shoe from 1987, this Mercurial Vapor Superfly II model was CR7’s first ever signature edition football boot and proved quite popular with the man himself, as he scored a total of 19 goals in this colourway.
The famous mango colourway from 2012 saw the Los Blancos forward fast become a club legend as he scored a hat-trick in these against fierce city rivals Atletico Madrid, also playing a key role for Real Madrid as they knocked Barcelona off their perch to become La Liga champions with a then-record total of 100 points.
With a footballing talent that’s often been described as like something from another galaxy, Ronaldo was a worthy recipient of this signature Nike Mercurial Vapor IX, which featured a space-inspired graphic on the boot’s upper. CR7 would debut these in El Clasico, while other highlights included him scoring his 100th away goal for Los Blancos in 106 away appearances wearing the boot.
Marking a revolution for Nike with the use of Flyknit, the Mercurial Superfly IV was released ahead of the 2014 FIFA World Cup finals in Brazil. They incorporated a knitted upper, while the soleplate saw a return to carbon fibre. Portugal may have crashed out at the group stages, but CR7 did score his 50th goal for his nation and also became the first Portuguese player to play and score in three FIFA World Cup tournaments.
Limited to only 333 pairs globally and sold out literally within minutes, the Nike Mercurial Superfly IV Rare Gold celebrated CR7’s stellar 2014, which saw him pick up his third Ballon d’Or award. The Los Blancos striker had an extra pair of boots made just for him, which featured micro-diamonds embedded on the CR7 logo.
With a design that was inspired by the launch colourway seen on the Mercurial Vapor III, the Nike Mercurial Superfly IV CR7 324k celebrated Cristiano becoming Real Madrid’s leading goal scorer of all-time, having scored his 324th goal in a staggering 311 appearances for the club. Apart from the stunning white and gold colourway, the shimmering effect seen on the large swoosh was simply beautiful.
Big moments call for big players to step up, especially when trophies are on the line. The new Nike Mercurial Superfly V was released ahead of the biggest game in club competition, the UEFA Champions League final where Real faced city rivals Atletico Madrid. CR7 stepped up to score the winning penalty and break Atletico hearts once again while wearing one of the most eye-catching Mercurials ever made. The trophies didn’t stop there for CR7, as he also tasted success at international level with Portugal winning the European Championships in France.
Acknowledging his standout performance against Manchester United while playing for Sporting Clube de Portugal in a pre-season friendly, the Nike Mercurial Superfly V CR7 was the third instalment in the Cristiano Ronaldo story, which covered seven key chapters in his career that marked important moments.

It’s amazing to think that more than 25 different colourways can be seen on the new Nike Mercurial Superfly VI Elite LVL UP football boots – each colourway represents so much history and so many iconic moments for the Portuguese forward. If Mbappe and Kerr are to carry the Mercurial torch going forward for the next 20 years, then they’ve got some pretty big shoes to fill!
