Speed Freak Header

Feast your eyes on the new Nike Mercurial Vapor 13 Neymar “Speed Freak” release, the high-profile Brazilian’s tenth signature boot from Nike and a paint job that merits a place on the podium.

Ladies and gentlemen start your engines…

This is Mercurial meets motorsport; a design mixed of petrolhead passion, pure speed and performance. Gone are the big and bold ‘Just Do It’ and Sportswear logo call outs, replaced with an eye-catching chequered pattern that is instantly recognisable with racing pedigree. The Swoosh, slightly smaller in application, gets the biggest benefit with a glossy application of the chequered pattern for the outstep, smartly outlined with more chrome.

Now the red, black and chrome colour is chosen in tribute to two of the most iconic names from elite motorsport – the silver top half of the boot acknowledging the current 5-time World Champion, Lewis Hamilton, the red honouring another of Brazil’s most famous sons the late Ayrton Senna. Both drivers that have huge personal significance to Neymar through friendship, national pride but above all a mutual passion for speed.

Neymar repping Mercs obviously just feels right, that Hypervenom sabbatical whilst giving us the first Jordan collab always seem to sit uneasy with what Hypervenom, Mercurial and Neymar represented. Neymar has been back in Mercurials since his move to the French capital, and each of those drops has been a Bonafide banger. Written in the Stars, Puro Fenomeno, Meu Jogo – we reckon each Mercurial release has just got better and better.

It seems you agree, because even with injury meaning he was hardly on the pitch long enough to wear his last signature release, you and the rest of the boot buying public didn’t seem to care as it still flew off our shelves.

So what have we got? Well, in place of the Mercurial’s regular logo call outs are a selection of icons and graphics on the rear quarter, arranged to mimic the look of the race suit overalls worn by motorsport drivers. Those icons are either references to previous Neymar boots, like the bold and happy, Osadia y Alegria, and the Sonho Dourado Golden Dream of his first signature Hypervenom; some are references of his tattoos like the roman numeral IV for his family and the famous Rihanna inspired Shhhh, which of course was also the title of his last signature Mercurial.

Compare the design detail on this release with the most recent CR signature boot and it’s easy to say which one we’d want to rock come gameday. By the way Swoosh team, if you’re reading this, we’re still waiting for a Mbappe signature please…

OK, so if the idea of running out in boots designed just for Neymar still doesn’t quite appeal, well, you’re missing out on arguably the greatest generation of Mercurial to date. The best part though is for this generation of Mercurial, Nike and Pro Direct Soccer offer the Elite tier boots all the way from a UK3.5 to a UK12 shoe size, meaning those performance benefits are made available to for more feet and the Neymar Speed Freak collection is no exception.

So, all that’s left to share is how you can get your pair. You should know by now that is your destination for your new boots, of course these new Vapor 13s are already online for you to cop. Yeh, that’s just how we roll.
