Pro:Direct Best Boots of 2019
It’s been another incredible 12 months on the boot front with a number of new faces, limited edition releases and the return of old favourites to make 2019 memorable for many reasons. As the proud home of the world’s largest bootroom, we think it’s only right that we put our cards on the table and present Pro:Direct’s top 10 boots of 2019. No pressure then.
10: Nike Mercurial Superfly VI LVL
A beautiful boot that’s dripping in history pulled together details from classic Merc designs for a clean yet bold aesthetic fit for the modern game. Cristiano Ronaldo is Mr Mercurial and Nike harvested some of his most iconic looks to combine on these boots which are more than fit to grace the feet of a legend.
9: adidas X99.1
Harnessing the raw pace and electric feel of the legendary 99G limited edition boots from 2015, adidas brought back the look but amped up the durability and weight to make it substantially more at home on the pitch than in the display cabinet, unlike the OG. Designed for speed, these X99.1s brought fire to the field in 2019.
8: Nike Euphoria Mode Phantom VNM Elite
Absolutely stunning. Have you ever seen a more premium looking boot than the Euphoria Mode Phantom VNM in white and gold? Limited edition and rightly restricted to champions on the pitch, Raheem Sterling bagged a hat-trick in these in the 2019 FA Cup Final as Manchester City crushed Watford 6-0 at Wembley.
7: Nike Tiempo Legend VIII - Dazzle Camo
When the Tiempo Legend VIII launched the Swoosh vowed to take the silo in a new direction and nothing personified that more than this distorted camo drop which mimicked the disguise used by car manufacturers on new vehicles to hide lines and curves from competitors. Unique to football, these limited edition, mind bending, boots were too brave and well executed to overlook in 2019.
6: Adidas Nemeziz Messi 19.1 15th Anniversary
Lionel Messi’s a special player and he deserves outstanding signature boots. The Three Stripes delivered in October with the silky smooth ‘15 Años’ boots to mark the 15th anniversary of his Barcelona debut. Gold details call out his Ballon d’Or wins and the blue and white upper pays homage to Argentina. Just so nice.
5: Mizuno Morelia Neo II B
Super premium, lightweight and absolutely lethal. We love both versions of the Mizuno Morelia Neo II Beta FG that landed this year but the silver and gold edition just wins the beauty contest for us. The black one was pure stealth but the premium look and feel of the OG just elevates it that bit to make it onto our list.
4: New Balance Furon Mane Bambaly
Representing his Senegalese roots and promoting his lethal speed and precision on pitch, the New Balance Furon 4.0 ‘Bambaly’ boots were just perfect for the Liverpool FC superstar. Integrating the colours of the Senegal flag, the boots represented the challenges Mane faced growing up before making it big. A vibrant signature boot that captured the player perfectly.
3: Nike Mercurial Vapor XIII Tech Craft
Tech Craft drops are rare so we’re always gassed when one comes around. When a Mercurial gets the all-over leather treatment Nike really have our attention. Pure speed with refined touch? A literal game changer. The combination of pace and control just puts the Vapor XIII above the only other Tech Craft release that came this year in the shape of the deadly VNM.
2: Nike T90 Laser 2019
Second, but only just, is the magnificent remake of the legendary debut Total 90 boot from Nike. Faithfully restored with added tech on the soleplate for 2019, the yellow Nike T90 Laser looked as good as the 2007 original with even more performance. This one absolutely flew so we know it was just as popular with you bootheads as it was here at Pro:Direct Soccer HQ.
1: Adidas Predator Mania OG Red/Silver
So, here it is. Our favourite boot of 2019 out of the hundreds of styles that have passed through the world’s largest bootroom. Oh yes, it’s the adidas Predator Mania OG in red and silver. Pure retro perfection from the German giants. The fold-over tongue with strap and Badge of Sport. The three stripes on the outside. Those curved fins for extra bend on the ball on the forefoot. Plush leather. A lethal combination.
All this is brought up to date through the Predator 19+ soleplate with Boost which combines for the perfect boot for the purists. We haven’t even mentioned the heritage, lines and overall aesthetics yet. In a very crowded field it was going to take something special to stand out this year and adidas delivered right at the finishing line with this December drop. Here’s to 2020.
