We’ve talked a lot in the past about how good a boot the Nike Premier II is – in terms of value for money, it’s right up there with the best boots on the market. When it comes to colourways though, Nike have tended to stick with fairly understated, subtle designs in keeping with the silo’s classic status. Nothing wrong with that of course, but we know some of you have been hoping for something a bit more flash. It’s with no little fanfare, then, that we can today reveal the utterly resplendent Metallic Vivid Gold/White Premier II.

Following on from last year’s Ronaldinho “Touch of Gold”-style colourway, which was white with gold accents, this new design flips the script, inverting the colours to create a truly golden boot that could legitimately be handed out as a trophy. Just like the previous release, it’s based on one of the iconic Tiempo Air Zoom Legend paintjobs that Ronnie wore in the mid-2000s: this time it’s the Gold/White of 2006 that makes the move to the Premier.

The modern Premier version has more of a sheen to it than the original, however – it’s a slightly lighter, brighter gold – and features a clean, all-white soleplate that’s a good counter-balance for the extravagant upper. It’s actually a better overall execution, in our opinion.

As before, there are no signature Ronaldinho details on the boot, but the heritage is clear for all to see – the new Premier features the tongue from the Air Zoom Legend II, don’t forget. There’s no doubt who you’re aiming to emulate when you wear these beauts.

Nike are actually following almost the exact same release schedule with these new Premier colourways as they did with the originals. The white with gold Air Legend came out in 2005, then the fully gold boot in 2006, then in 2007 we were blessed with the first entirely unique signature Ronaldinho boot. Does that mean Nike have something special planned for next year? We’ll have to wait and see on that one, but for now, the gold Premier II is the ultimate Joga Bonito calling card for Sunday League skill merchants.
