The adidas A16+ Ultraboost sneaker is back with some fresh new colourways, set to be released in strictly limited numbers. Are you able to pull off the outrageous leopard-inspired version, or are you more likely to play it safe with one of the more sleek and understated shoes from the collection?

You can check out the new looks for the Three Stripes’ laceless masterpiece below, but remember, if you’re keen to get your hands on a pair you need to be quick, because when they’re gone, they’re gone.

When a designer gets a sneaker right, it has the potential to become timeless, defining an era and earning cult status; think Stan Smiths or Air Force Ones – classic kicks that have been around for longer than, well, probably you. But there’s something else that those two treads in particular have in common: their roots are in sport – tennis and basketball respectively – and their appeal has evolved so that they now dominate the street scene. And the same thing is happening with the A16+ Ultraboost.

Already over two years young (a relatively long time in the fashion scene), the design of the shoe hasn’t fundamentally changed from its initial release. Based on the ACE PureControl – the first truly effective laceless football boot to dominate pitches worldwide – the A16+ Ultraboost took its laceless upper and placed it on adidas’s revolutionary (and incredibly comfortable) boost outsole. The result was outstanding and that showed in the demand for the shoe, with the A16+ Ultraboost outlasting the ACE PureControl after the latter was retired in favour of the returning Predator.

So the A16+ Ultraboost ticks all the boxes on its way to cult status: originated in sport, transcends the sport to dominate the street, and outgrows its original purpose. Of the latest three colourways to be released, attention will no doubt be on the standout, leopard-style version, with its bold golden heel cup. It’s a stunning shoe, and the only thing holding you back is whether you can pull it off, figuratively speaking. If you haven’t tried Primeknit yet then it’s everything you’d expect it to be: sock-like comfort that is at the same time incredibly supportive and breathable, and for the first time ever adidas has engineered the leopard pattern into the Primeknit
While that shoe catches the eye in this release for obvious reasons, the other two still boast the same ingredients that make the A16+ Ultraboost such an appealing shoe. The clean, one-colour uppers feature a smart texture effect, achievable thanks to the Primeknit construction. On the lighter beige-looking Core Brown shoe, the outsole is white, to match the overall lighter tone, whereas the black shoe features a black outsole. Each shoe shares a subtle nod to the other in the choice of heel cup colouring – the lighter shoe goes with black and the black shoe goes with the light brown. It’s a nice way of tying the pack together.
It’s another hit for a shoe that’s gone beyond what adidas could’ve possibly imagined in terms of its popularity. Falling under adidas' Limited Collection release schedule, this means they won’t hang around - cop your pair of the adidas A16+ Ultraboost from from October 10th, 2018.
