Australia's 'One to Watch' Sam Kerr
Ranked 6th in the World Ranking’s, Australia will meet Italy in their first matchday fixture of the FIFA World Cup on Sunday 9th June at 12pm BST. Leading the women out is their captain Sam Kerr.
Kerr currently plays for Chicago Red Stars who play In the National Women’s Soccer League. The most successful women’s football team in the history of the game. Having scored 18 goals in 22 matches for Chicago last season her call up to the World Cup is testament to the hard work she puts in for her club and country.
What makes Sam Kerr our ‘One to Watch’ this summer? Her goal scoring record speaks for itself, 131 club goals in 198 games for a 25-year-old is astonishing. Just the 31 goals in 76 International games is also the reason she’s seen as the go-too player in the national side.
However, onto what Kerr will be wearing on her feet and the colours she’ll be donning this summer in France…
The Australia Home Kit: Labelled as ‘Never Say Die’ by Nike. With an average age under 24 years old, an extremely youthful Matildas side will take to the pitch in France looking to make their mark on the world stage. The home kit features an instantly recognisable design derived from the federation’s 1991 ‘Spew Kit’ but modernised with the inclusion of elements from the outback, macro and micro shots of the country, graffiti from Hosier Lane and small golden wattles. ‘Never Say Die’ is used as a pride detail, a common phrase used amongst the Matildas.
